Bio

This is a character journal for Wing, a character in [info]westchester_x2

Name: Edward Flynn "Just call me Wing."

Codename: Wing

Age: 16

Face/Played By: Seth Green

Powers: Flight

Personality: Wing has changed since his mutation manifested, and his flight has become a big part of his identity. He sees himself as something more than human, but not in a Magneto-type way. He's embraced his mutant status, and sees his powers as both a raison d'etre and an obligation, all the better to rationalize his vigilante activity at night.

Overall, he's still a teenage boy - rash, impulsive, and rarely puts a leash on his mouth. Quick with a tease or a good-natured cuff for a buddy, he's nearly always restless when he's forced to stay on the ground. Ground him for too long, and he gets testy, irritable. He loves the outdoors, but most of the sports he used to enjoy (climbing, rollerblading) have pretty much taken a back seat to the flying.

History: Eddie was the first and only child of Kimberly and Patrick Flynn. Kim had three miscarriages before Eddie was born, and complications at birth resulted in her being unable to have any more children.

Naturally, his parents took a very protective stance regarding their son after the ordeal they went through to have him. They tried to give him the freedom that he needed, but there was always that dread in the backs of their minds - if something happened to him...

Naturally, Eddie had issues with them being so protective. An independent child by nature, his favorite game to play with his parents was Hide and Seek and Chase Me. His father used to half-joke that he started going gray the minute that Eddie could walk. His mother just smiled as best she could as Eddie grew into a daredevil.

He never needed training wheels.

They refused to buy him a skateboard. Eddie got a paper route and bought it himself.

He was in the hospital for breaks and sprains so often the ER people knew him by name.

He took Karate lessons to improve his coordination.

His favorite show was Jackass.

The only non-dangerous hobby he ever showed an interest in was guitar, and his parents bought him the best six-string acoustic they could afford and got him private lessons. It was the only guarantee they had that he was inside at least an hour a day.

While he may have been independent, it didn't mean he preferred his own company, and he always had a pack of friends in whatever hobby he was indulging in at the moment. Fellow adventurers flock together, right? He never took a liking for team sports, however; he was a freestyler, not someone that took orders well. He loved his Mom and Dad and tried his hardest not to make them too worried. Still, there was a restlessness in him that he couldn't ignore.

He discovered the local Climbnasium when he was thirteen and it was as if he'd come home.

Eddie bugged the owner to teach him to climb, then bugged his Dad for climbing equipment until they finally relented and bought it for him for Christmas. The conditions, however, were that he was ONLY to climb at the indoor place, and only under supervision.

He got good, FAST, and soon the walls at the 'nasium weren't enough anymore.

But there were all kinds of places to go...he just had to make sure his parents thought he was at the skate park late or something. This was suburbia, but he didn't need mountains to climb. The local office parks had buildings that were high enough to be challenging. Of course, he couldn't use his climbing gear. He couldn't afford to get caught, and the buildings weren't quite conducive for ropes and intruders.

That was the first time it happened. He was climbing a four-story office tower when he missed his handhold. A quick flail-and-grab, and he was falling. He wondered if the ER staff would mourn him.

But he didn't hit the ground.

He was up past the roof of the building before he realized he was flying, and was halfway to losing his breath from the altitude before he figured out how to bring himself back down. It was incredible. He was FLYING. Like Superman, or Human Torch.

It was when he landed, and he felt both his legs snap like twigs that he found out that invulnerability didn't automatically come with being able to fly. A passing security guard saw him "fall" and called 911.

He spent six months in traction and physical therapy learning how to walk again...but he didn't want to walk. He wanted to FLY. His parents had had enough, however, and started watching him a LOT more closely, especially now that they knew what he was. He couldn't not show them, not when it was so cool, but he also knew what he saw on the news, about anti-mutant activism and what could happen if his status became known.

He hated hiding it though, and practiced flying at night until he got better at it, or at least better at landing. It was during one of his night flights that it happened. He saw a couple of kids throwing rocks at a stray dog, and before he knew it he'd "strafed" them, clothes-lining the one and kicking the other. He was up, up and away before they knew what hit him, and the rush of it was WAY cooler than best trick and best climb combined.

He was a superhero. A few trips to the store for a mask, gloves and protective gear, and he was Wing.

His parents are still looking discreetly for a way to help their son. It's only a matter of time before their secret comes to light in a big, messy way, and they don't want anything to happen to him. They remain blissfully unaware of his nocturnal patrols, and if he seems more tired lately, they're willing to chalk it up to the stress of having to hide his mutation.
